Well renowned in the gravel riding world is 3T's Exploro range for the straight forward and simple fact that they're the only truly complete aerodynamic gravel bikes out on the market and available in the UK. 3T's Exploro Max is designed to be the RACE set-up bike of the Exploro range, offering fierce speed and an impressive ability to tear up the trails and leave behind a lingering dust trail for all those to follow. With the Max designed and engineered for pure speed don't just take our word for it when here at the Tristore you can experience what all the hype is about for yourself by demoing this model in a size Large. 3T created the Exploro Max to be capable of matching top speed road bikes when fitted with 35-42mm WAM tyres whilst offering strong and reliable traction to all surfaces and terrain. Want to fit bigger tyres on your gravel bike and still achieve high speeds? No problem because 90% of the aerodynamic advantages of the Max's frameset are still achievable with up to 61mm WAM tyres. The beauty of this set up means the Max is ideal for pure gravel racers as well as all-rounders looking to mix things up between road and gravel riding. The Exploro Max offer's serious aerodynamic advantages with close fitted cutouts, meaning the rear wheel is shielded and speed is increased. The Exploro also ensures no gaps are oversized between the downtube and front tyre, improving airflow. Featuring a small 1 1/4” sized headtube, much like a road bike, for optimal aerodynamics right from the front of the bike. 3T also equipped the Exploro Max with Sram's Force AXS eTap 1x groupset to match high performing shifting with a top-quality bike. Finally, the Exploro Max features a direct-mount front and rear brake, allowing for the calipers to be pre-set with 160mm rotors, avoiding the hassle and need for any additional piecies.
The Exploro is designed to fit road, cross and even mountain bike tyres following the GravelPlus standard. The road and cross tyres are 700c, the mountain bike tyres use the 650b size, ensuring that all of these have virtually the same overall wheel diameter and therefore the same predictable handling. Internal cables, hoses and seatpost clamp clean up the frame aerodynamically and visually. Dedicated FlipTop cable guides are future-proof with in mechanical & electronic versions for single & double chainrings.
Fast & Aero
3T didn’t want the Exploro to be fast in theory, but in the real world. So they tested at a realistic 20mph (32kmh) instead of the standard 30mph (48kmh) and optimized the frame for water bottles (tough to do long, epic rides without). 3T even designed the Sqaero shape to work well when covered in mud! The result? A muddy Exploro with 40mm knobby gravel tyres and 2 water bottles is faster than the equivalent clean round tube bike is with 28mm slick road tires and without bottles.
The RaceMax frameset is fastest with 35-42mm WAM tyres. That’s when its top speed rivals the best road bikes out there. 3T call this the RACE set-up. But depending on where you ride and how fast you ride, you may want an even bigger tyre for ultimate traction and control. Good news: 90% of the aerodynamic advantage of the RaceMax frameset still works with tyres up to 61mm WAM. That’s the MAX set-up. So maybe you’re an all-roader mixing road & gravel or a gravel racer getting the most out of their RACE set-up. Maybe you’re looking for an unstoppable MAX set-up. Either way, the RaceMax gets you there, and gets you there fast. Maybe you want it all, in which case a dual wheel set-up - one for fast rides and one with the biggest tyres - is the right choice for you.
