Welcome to the stiffest road bike frame that Cervélo has ever designed. 44% stiffer than its predecessor, the R5 is boosted by disc brake engineering that increases lateral fork stiffness, putting the control of the bike back where it belongs ... at your fingertips. Cervélo designed the R-Series with the capability to clear 28mm tyres, not only because of its proven aerodynamic effects but to add versatility to your ride, so you're no longer limited to what roads or paths you can or cannot travel on. Cervélo has also put a touch of brilliance to the components that the R5 disc is built with including integrated carbon handlebar and stem as well as their very own carbon aero seatpost all of which save you watts, reduce the overall weight of the bike and provide better control. Finally, the R5 disc comes finished with Shimano's Ultegra Di2 hydraulic disc groupset, providing sharp, powerful braking that reduces rider fatigue and electronic gearing that is smoother, more reliable and durable than you could expect from the very best mechanical gearing groupset.
TECHNOLOGIES
Stiffness
With 18% more stiffness at the headtube and 26% more at the bottom bracket, the new R5 Disc is Cervélo's stiffest-ever road frame. And it gets better: By integrating the latest disc-brake technology, lateral fork stiffness has been boosted even further. But that’s far from the whole story: The R5 Disc also incorporates a stiffness-to-weight ratio that has been meticulously tuned to the attacking style of high-performance road cyclists.
Ride Quality
Elite road riders no longer equate comfort with soft, slow bikes. Vertical compliance can reduce fatigue and, in turn, boost power output. Wheel manufacturers’ wind-tunnel testing has also shown that wider tyres can deliver aero benefits. For these reasons, tyre clearance for the new R Series has been widened to 28mm. Combine this with a Cervélo-engineered aero seatpost, and vertical compliance is further increased while improving aero. At the same time, the latest disc-brake technology, and a new profit and fine-tuned handling geometry, will have you charging down chicanes and attacking cobbles with complete confidence.
Usability
As well as the freedom to use a wider range of tyre sizes, dozens of small, satisfying design details separate good from extraordinary: Helpful thru-axle installation graphics, a subtle-yet-robust chain-stay protector, a sleek fitting cap, a stem that allows for internal electronic routing and easy computer mounting, an aero seatpost with integrated clamp and cover...the list goes on.
