Product Information

"Straight from the gate, the R5 feels taught. Standing out of the saddle and stomping on the pedals gives a pulse-like response, it feels like every ounce of your energy through the pedal stroke is pushing you forward with no losses from flex through the frame" - Bike Radar

Introducing Cervélo's re-designed ultralight race machine. Stated as “the perfect bike for stage racing” by Team Dimension Data’s World Tour rider Bernie Eisel and praised by the rest of the team for its new pro fit, stable and responsive handling, unrivalled stiffness and demonstrated by Omar Fraile powering it to glory in the 100th edition of the Giro d’Italia.

Premium Road Performance

The ultimate all-round race machine deserves optimal component packages to maximize performance, and the R5 delivers. A revamped handling geometry balances stability and responsiveness for a ride experience that will make your confidence soar and your rivals curse.

Stiffer, Faster, Better

The stiffest rim brake-equipped road frame Cervélo have ever produced joins forces with performance-enhancing comfort, confidence-inspiring handling, and world-class lightweight design and aerodynamics made possible by innovative new Squoval Max tube shapes.

This asymmetrical 79mm bottom-bracket standard yields stiffer and lighter frames and crank systems.

Cervelo developed BBright to take advantage of the fact that oversized frame tubes are stiffer and lighter. On the right side, frame tubes are already as wide as possible; any wider and they’d hit the chainrings. But on the left side there are no chainrings, so BBright makes use of this extra space by extending the BB shell by 11 millimetres, nearly doubling the width of the left chainstay. At the same time, the drive-side dimensions of the frame are identical to BB30 and provide plenty of clearance for a wide range of cranks, including those with power meters.

Future-proof cable management
Ensures your frame is compatible with all current and future derailleur and brake systems.

Future-Proof Cable Management achieves compatibility across mechanical, electronic and hydraulic brake and derailleur systems. Future-Proof frames include interchangeable cable stops that snap into place and are easily swapped out by hand to accommodate upgrades. You can buy with confidence, knowing your bike is easily upgradable and can be enjoyed with the latest technology for years to come.

Carbon dropouts
Tough, compression-molded dropouts save weight with no sacrifice in strength compared to traditional metal dropouts.

Seatstays and chainstays are bonded into hollow dropouts, instead of the other way around. Bonding these precision-moulded surfaces reduces weight, and gives the internal rear derailleur cable a straight shot through the chainstay and dropout, eliminating bends and cable friction.

Evolved steerer design
The fork steerer’s diameter has a noticeable effect on a bike’s handling. evolved steerer design applies the diameters and taper designs that best suit each model.

A larger steerer diameter adds torsional stiffness with no weight penalty. A smaller steerer diameter is more compliant and can also be used to reduce headtube frontal area, and in turn, aerodynamic drag. How do we select which size to use? By defining performance goals — weight savings, aerodynamics, stiffness, ride quality and usability — at the start of the frame design process, Cervélo engineers choose the best steerer diameters/tapers to achieve those objectives.

Reduced-friction BB guide
Significantly reduces cable friction in the bottom bracket, which means smoother shifting, easier setup and longer service intervals.

The Reduced-Friction BB Guide maintains a consistent curve for each cable path by avoiding bends or kinks.

The library of tube shapes allows cervelo engineers to “dial in” the weight-saving, aero, stiffness and compliance properties that best suit specific areas of a frame.

Square shapes resist bending the best, while round shapes are tops when it comes to torsion. Since different frame tubes see a variable mix of bending and torsional loads, a careful combination of these shapes can offer the best of both worlds. Enter Squoval, which combines the attributes of a square and an oval to achieve an ideal balance of stiffness, weight and aerodynamics.
