Cervélo R5 SRAM Red eTap Men's Road Bike

The R5, at the TriStore, has become the go-to bike for those looking to enjoy riding their bike, either on a cycling trip in the French Alps or in and around Sussex's lanes. What makes the R5 so special is its incredible blend of handling and stiffness, topped off by a geometry that never fails to fit and hit the sweet spot, meaning your rides aren't limited by how long or how far. Overall the R5 is 34% stiffer than its predecessor, 21% of that total coming from the headtube through Cervélo's Squoval tube shape engineering and the other 13% coming from the revised BBright bottom bracket that also provides rugged durability. The R5 also boasts subtle changes that boosts the way the bike rides, including an integrated Cervélo-engineered carbon handlebar and stem and carbon aero seatpost. The R5- specific geometry promotes a lower standover height, putting the control back in your hands and extra clearance for up to 28c tyres, so you can now explore the path less travelled. Finally, the R5 is completed with SRAM's Red eTap, wireless electronic gearing that provides futuristic shifting between gears that is smoother, more reliable and durable than previous mechanical operated groupsets as well as reducing rider fatigue with disc brake stopping power.

Stiffness

With 21% more stiffness at the headtube and 13% more at the bottom bracket, the new R5 is our stiffest-ever road frame with rim brakes. But that’s far from the whole story: It also incorporates a stiffness-to-weight ratio that has been meticulously tuned to the attacking style of high-performance road cyclists.

 

Ride Quality

Elite road riders no longer equate comfort with soft, slow bikes. Vertical compliance can reduce fatigue and, in turn, boost power output. Wheel manufacturers’ wind-tunnel testing has also shown that wider tyres can deliver aero benefits. For these reasons, tyre clearance for the new R Series has been widened to 28mm. Combine this with a Cervélo-engineered aero seatpost, and vertical compliance is further increased while improving aerodynamics. At the same time, a new profit and handling geometry will have you charging down chicanes and attacking cobbles with complete confidence.

 

Usability

As well as the freedom to use a wider range of tyre sizes, dozens of small, satisfying design details separate good from extraordinary: A subtle-yet-robust chain-stay protector, a sleek fitting top cap, an integrated Cervélo-engineered bar and stem that allows for internal electronic cable routing and easy computer mounting, an aero seatpost with integrated clamp and cover...the list goes on.
