At the TriStore, we love how outside the box thinking lead Open to engineering a bike like the U.P. On the surface dropping the chainstays seems like a simple idea yet behind it is pure genius as well as a lot of hard work to ensure you benefit from the same great handling whether you're riding a 650B, mountain bike wheelset, or a 700c, road wheelset, with a range of tyre options. The U.P. frameset is now in its 3rd generation and Open has continued to develop the bike to ensure riders are experiencing the very best an adventure bike has to offer. This model features specifically designed areas of carbon which make sure the frame is strong where it needs to be as well as lightweight where it needs to be, they call it "The Right Carbon in The Right Place". We have put together a range of components in this build including Shimano's GRX 1x groupset that is designed specifically for gravel routes as well as Easton's high performing, and great value, EA70 handlebars and stem. Finally, Mavic's All Road, tubeless-ready, wheelset completes the job nicely as it performs just as well on the road as it does on the beaten track.
A wheel and tyre for every adventure
The U.P. fits mountain bike tyres up to 2.1” wide on 650b wheels. However, you can also fit a 47mm RoadPlus tyre on 700c standard road wheels, 40mm gravel tyre, a 32mm cross tyre or a 28mm road tyre, or anything in-between to ensure you have the grip and control you need on every and any route.
Handling that doesn't let you down
More importantly, and more difficult, the U.P. handles well in all wheel/tyre configurations, as customers, media and award judges confirm time and again. So whether you ride it with road or mountain bike tyres, on pavement or off-road, you always have nimble, responsive and confidence-inspiring handling.
The U.P pathed the way for the future of gravel riding with its original dropped chainstay design. Many since have tried to copy it without fully understanding how it works and therefore never really making the most of its benefits. The dropped chainstay design makes room in a space that is often crowded by chainring (s), the frame itself and tyres. However, this engineering takes away the chainstay from the crowded area, increasing stiffness and allowing you to run your choice of wheels and tyres.
