Specilaized's lastest development is the Aethos, a totally new breed of bike! One that allows you to experience a new world where you get to ride amongst the clouds with the lightest frame in the world. From the Grand Tours to the local crit races, racing is generally the motivation behind pushing the boundaries of development in pursuit of marginal gains. The Aethos, however, was developed with something far simpler in mind, the purity of cycling. The passion and joy of simply going out riding, fast or slow, uphill or down, simply for the love of riding. So Specialized decided to break the rules, throw out the hundreds of UCI templates they've moulded, and create the Aethos, a bike that captures riding in the purest form. The Aethos blends the rider and bike into one as harmoniously as possible, creating a world where time just doesn't exist when you're in the saddle. With a frame that's astonishingly lightweight, at just 585 grams (S-Works 56cm) you're all set to dance up those climbs like never before, accelerate and explode into a breakaway, or decend with the most graceful of handling. But Specialized didn't just stop with the frame and its top of the range ride quality, they saw every fine detail through till the end, till it was nothing short of perfection. They equipped the Aethos Comp with SRAM’s 12-speed RIVAL eTAP AXS groupset for crisp, reliable and low maintenance shifting. Bombproof DT Swiss R470 wheels finish the bike off nicely and keep you attacking the uphills and enjoying the down.
A New Breed
The Aethos frame has been developed to tick all the boxes. The ultimate, in feel, super lightweight and all-important style. No matter if you're accelerating up steep climbs, or descending technical descents, spending all day in the saddle or out for a short coffee ride, the Aethos hits the mark. Specialized have achieved this by going back to the drawing board. They have reinvented the traditional road shape found on bikes of the past, with what seems like subtle alterations. But said subtle changes help deliver massive gains in stiffness and balance, whilst shedding weight. To do this Specialized developed an entirely new layup and manufacturing process Specialized present the lightest frame out there (585 grams, S-Works, size 56cm). The Aethos is more than just a new bike, it’s the first of a new breed.
A featherweight frame is useless without confidence-inspiring ride characteristics, which is why the Aethos was developed to have the perfect balance of front and rear stiffness combined with exceptional ride quality. By studying the flexing and breathing of carbon fibre, Specialized was able to discover groundbreaking findings of how forces flow through frames. Just a few pedal strokes and you’ll realize this sublime ride sets a new standard.
The Fine Detail
Every detail, from the derailleur hangers to the fork expander plug have been designed with style, weight, and durability in mind. Specialized also spec’d it with low-maintenance, wireless SRAM Rival eTap AXS electronic shifting and hydraulic disc brakes paired with bomb-proof DT Swiss R470 Disc wheels. All things considered, you have the perfect steed to excite you out on the road.
