The Diverge Base Carbon has been designed by Specialized to tackle any adventure that you've got planned. The set up of the Diverge means that it's ready for all-terrain, be that simply road or a gravel trail, allowing you to switch between the two so you're not limited by where you can go. By featuring Specialized's FACT 8r carbon frame, the overall weight of the Diverge Base Carbon is kept low whilst still maintaining a strong and durable base. The Geometry set up on the Diverge has been tailored towards a road version of a modern trail bike, giving it the ability to handle playful whilst still allowing you to predict its steering, ideal for performing dirt skids and mid-corner drifts as you travel along the trail. To further improve the Diverge, Specialized made the bottom bracket half a centimetre lower than on the previous model as well as slacking out the head tube angle, shortening the chainstays and also shorting the wheelbase all to allow for a solid performance that's equally impressive on both gravel and tarmac. The Base Carbon model of the Diverge has been equipped with a SRAM Apex 1xdrivetrain to not only lighten the load but to save you the hassle of chain dropping by removing the issues altogether. With a large cassette on the back, you've got a wide range of gears at hand ready to overcome any climb or keep you travelling at speed down any descent. With hydraulic disc brakes fitted, you've also got the ability to stay in control and brake sharply no matter the weather condition, all year round. Specialized's Future Shock technology has been built into the Diverge Expert to optimise your riding comfort by absorbing any bumps as you travel. Finally, this model of the Diverge has been fitted with an Axis Elite Disc wheelset that has been wrapped with 700x38mm Pathfinder Pro tyres to maintain the Base Carbon's high performance with reliable traction to the trails.
TECHNOLOGIES
The Geometry
You can think of the Diverge's geometry as a road version of a modern trail bike. It provides playful handling and predictable steering for endless dirt skids and mid-corner drifts, but keeps stiffness up to snuff for your inner-racer. Along with a bottom bracket that's over a half-centimetre lower than the previous Diverge, we also slacked-out the head tube angle, shortened the chainstays, and made a shorter wheelbase. The result? A bike that performs equally well over both the dirt and road.
Trail Ready
Nothing unlocks a bike’s capability like tyre clearance, so Specialized gave the new Diverge a whopping 47mm of tire clearance with a 700c wheel and 2.1” with a 650b wheel. Thanks to a drive side chain stay utilizing a solid beam of carbon behind the chain rings Specialized have created clearance without using a fragile dropped chain stay design or increasing chain stay length. Specialized have also given the Diverge plenty of rack mounts, including fork and top tube mounts, to ensure you can take what you need, no matter how far you plan to go, or how long you plan to stay out.
Future Shock
There's only so much that wider tyres with lower pressures can absorb when it comes to bumps, but this is where Specialized's Future Shock comes into play. It not only soaks up bumps with ease, but it also adds the benefit of extremely predictable handling. That's because the wheelbase isn't lengthening when you hit a bump, so when you dive hard into a turn, you won't be surprised by under-steer or sloppy handling. The Diverge's version also gets a special treatment featuring a progressive spring that makes this technology more suitable for off-road applications, where stiffer suspension is often needed to soak-up larger bumps and obstacles.
