Specialized Diverge Comp Carbon Gravel Bike

Specialized's all-new Diverge has undergone some serious design changes, providing you with an on and off-road bike that's more capable than ever before. The Diverge Comp Carbon gravel bike has been created by Specialized to broaden your horizons, now providing you with the ability to embark on new adventures you didn't even know you needed. The set up of the Diverge means that it's ready for all-terrain, be that simply road or a gravel trail, you can easily switch between the two meaning you're no longer limited by where you can go. Built using Specialized's FACT 9r carbon, the overall weight of the Diverge Comp Carbon's frame and fork is kept low and still provides you with a strong and reliable base. The Geometry found on the new Diverge has been heavily altered and is now tailored more towards a road version of a modern trail bike, allowing you to experience playful handling whilst still remaining firmly in control, ideal for performing dirt skids and mid-corner drifts as you travel along the trail. Specialized has also moved the bottom bracket half a centimetre lower than on the previous Diverge model and has also slacked-out the head tube angle, shortened the chainstays as well as using a shorter wheelbase all to allow for a  higher level of performance that's equally impressive on both dirt, gravel and tarmac. The Comp Carbon model of the Diverge has been equipped with Shimano's GRX RX810 groupset to ensure you've got quick, crisp and reliable shifting at all times. Fitted with hydraulic disc brakes fitted, you've got the ability to stay in control and brake sharply no matter the weather or terrain conditions, every day of the year. On the Comp Carbon, you'll be please to know you get upgraded to Specialized's Future Shock 2.0 technology has been built into the headset to optimise your riding comfort by absorbing any bumps as you travel. Lastly, this Comp Carbon model has been fitted with a DT Swiss G540 wheelset that has been wrapped with 700x38mm Pathfinder Pro tyres to maintain the Comp Carbon's high performance and capability, offering reliable traction at all times.

The Geometry

You can think of the Diverge's geometry as a road version of a modern trail bike. It provides playful handling and predictable steering for endless dirt skids and mid-corner drifts, but keeps stiffness up to snuff for your inner-racer. Along with a bottom bracket that's over a half-centimetre lower than the previous Diverge, we also slacked-out the head tube angle, shortened the chainstays, and made a shorter wheelbase. The result? A bike that performs equally well over both the dirt and road.

Trail Ready

Nothing unlocks a bike’s capability like tyre clearance, so Specialized gave the new Diverge a whopping 47mm of tire clearance with a 700c wheel and 2.1” with a 650b wheel. Thanks to a drive side chain stay utilizing a solid beam of carbon behind the chain rings Specialized have created clearance without using a fragile dropped chain stay design or increasing chain stay length. Specialized have also given the Diverge plenty of rack mounts, including fork and top tube mounts, to ensure you can take what you need, no matter how far you plan to go, or how long you plan to stay out.

Future Shock

There's only so much that wider tyres with lower pressures can absorb when it comes to bumps, but this is where Specialized's Future Shock comes into play. It not only soaks up bumps with ease, but it also adds the benefit of extremely predictable handling. That's because the wheelbase isn't lengthening when you hit a bump, so when you dive hard into a turn, you won't be surprised by under-steer or sloppy handling. The Diverge's version also gets a special treatment featuring a progressive spring that makes this technology more suitable for off-road applications, where stiffer suspension is often needed to soak-up larger bumps and obstacles.
