Specialized has designed the Diverge Comp E5 for fast and fun riding both on and off the road. The new Diverge is keen to take on the trails and is more than capable of tackling serious off-road terrain with the ability to now take mountain bike wheels thanks to a whopping 47mm of tyre clearance with a 700c wheel and 2.1” with a 650b wheel. The Comp E5 model is built with a Premium E5 Aluminum frame to provide you with a stiff and reliable base to work from. With an Alloy frame, you'll have peace of mind when riding off-road knowing that any debris or gravel that can flick up everyone now and then is or no concern to you and your new bike. Featuring a full carbon FACT fork decreases the overall weight of the bike whilst also providing you with more responsive handling to nip round the tighter parts of the trail. Specialized's Future Shock technology is built into the headset and will increase your comfort and reduce shoulder tightness as it'll absorb some of the impacts from the bumps along the trails and holes on the roads. With hydraulic disc brakes fitted, you've also got the ability to stay in control and brake sharply no matter the weather conditions, all year round. This model of the Diverge is equipped with Shimano's 1x GRX 600 groupset that offers efficient and effective shifting all ride long and provides a wide range of gearing to tackle any uphill climb. This 1x system also means you don't have to worry about the chain dropping, meaning you can spend more time riding. Finally, this model of the Diverge has been fitted with an Axis Elite Disc wheelset that has been wrapped with 700x38mm Pathfinder Sport tyres to maintain high performance and offer reliable traction to the ground.
You can think of the Diverge's geometry as a road version of a modern trail bike. It provides playful handling and predictable steering for endless dirt skids and mid-corner drifts, but keeps stiffness up to snuff for your inner-racer. Along with a bottom bracket that's over a half-centimetre lower than the previous Diverge, we also slacked-out the head tube angle, shortened the chainstays, and made a shorter wheelbase. The result? A bike that performs equally well over both the dirt and road.
Nothing unlocks a bike’s capability like tyre clearance, so Specialized gave the new Diverge a whopping 47mm of tyre clearance with a 700c wheel and 2.1” with a 650b wheel. Thanks to a drive side chain stay utilizing a solid beam of carbon behind the chain rings Specialized have created clearance without using a fragile dropped chain stay design or increasing chain stay length. Specialized have also given the Diverge plenty of rack mounts, including fork and top tube mounts, to ensure you can take what you need, no matter how far you plan to go, or how long you plan to stay out.
There's only so much that wider tyres with lower pressures can absorb when it comes to bumps, but this is where Specialized's Future Shock comes into play. It not only soaks up bumps with ease, but it also adds the benefit of extremely predictable handling. That's because the wheelbase isn't lengthening when you hit a bump, so when you dive hard into a turn, you won't be surprised by under-steer or sloppy handling. The Diverge's version also gets a special treatment featuring a progressive spring that makes this technology more suitable for off-road applications, where stiffer suspension is often needed to soak-up larger bumps and obstacles.
