The Roubaix to date has won an incredible 7 Paris Roubaix spring classic races. The bike was originally designed to provide long-lasting comfort on cobbled and challenging road surfaces that would help riders defeat the "Hell of the North" race and that is exactly what it has done. The updated Roubaix does not deviate from its original concept, except making the bike as aero as the Tarmac SL6 which is no bad thing. The re-engineered tube shapes are how it has become so aerodynamically efficient, born in the Specialized FreeFoil shape library and then validated in their "Win-Tunnel". This frame design also allows you to explore the road less travelled by making room for 33mm tyres. You will also find a brand-new seat post design. The D-shape concept was taken from the Tarmac but improved by adding more flexibility into the upper which boosts the bike's compliance. Finally, the updated 2.0 Future Shock suspension system provides 20mm of compression at your fingertips to smooth out every road, saving your energy for the sprint finish.
Roubaix, as Aero as the Tarmac SL6
The new Roubaix frame delivers compliance without compromise via the perfect balance of aerodynamics, light overall weight via a FACT 10r carbon construction, compliance, and Rider-First Engineering™. With tube shapes that were born in Specialized's FreeFoil Shape Library and validated in the "Win-Tunnel", the new Roubaix’s as aero as the Tarmac SL6. Meanwhile, to ensure the weight and ride quality, Specialized turned to a Rider-First Engineered™ design to deliver optimal stiffness and compliance across all sizes, from 44 to 64cm. Of course, the frame has shed some serious weight in the process. And to prep you for your own Hell of the North, Specialized have made room for 33mm tyres.
Aerodynamic & Compliant Seatpost
To go along with the new frame, Specialized has also developed a totally-new S-Works Pavé seatpost. Not only is it the first compliant seatpost that’s ALSO aerodynamic, but it also does so without any additional weight or finicky contraptions. Starting with the same D-shape design found on the Tarmac, Specialized took its compliance a step further by building additional flex into the upper and developing a new drop-clamp design in the frame. This provides plenty of compliance while staying perfectly balanced with the front-end, so you get a smooth, balanced ride no matter how rough the road.
Updated Future Shock Suspension
With 20mm of rough-road-taming travel, the Future Shock 2.0 not only delivers a smoother, more comfortable ride, but it also reduces fatigue and increases speed over harsh terrain. The new Smooth Boot, meanwhile, enhances the aesthetics to bring a clean transition from the head tube to the stem.
