The CruX is world-class. Don't just take our word for it, with a closet full of world championship trophies to its name the CruX has proven it. But don't think for a second that Specialized will settle at that. Their top of the range S-Works cyclocross frameset has dropped a whopping 400g in frame weight (over a quarter of its original weight) from last years model. Specialized has made this happen through their Rider-First Engineered™ design which uses size-specific tube shapes to ensure every rider gets to feel the same benefits no matter what size frame they are riding. Specialized also know that in order to perform at your best in a cyclocross race you need to be comfortable carrying your bike, so they have engineered a rear triangle which features a large opening and a flat bottom so it perches on your shoulder in just the right position. Finally, 8mm of tyre clearance is ensured even with tyres as big as 33mm for plenty of mud clearance on wet, mucky mid-winter race days.
TECHNOLOGIES
Carrying made comfortable
The top tube has been designed for easy shouldering when you're hopping off to clear barriers, as it features a large opening to the front triangle and a flat bottom. For stability in the corners and on off-camber sections, the geometry has a low bottom bracket and a sharp front-end. This combination also helps to initiate corners, regardless of the terrain.
Ready for the mud
With maximum mud-shedding ability in mind, we included eight millimetres of clearance on all sides of a 33mm tyre, providing plenty of clearance for muddy conditions. After all, frame weight becomes irrelevant when it's covered in 10 pounds of mud.
Lighter, stiffer, faster, stronger
The CruX now comes in around a scant 900 grams for a 56cm - over 400 grams lighter than the previous frameset. A light and stiff frame, alone, isn't useful in a 'cross race if it isn't compliant, however, which is why the new CruX also combines stiffness and compliance in all the right places. And to assist with the latter, Specialized lowered the seat collar by two centimetres for more exposed seatpost and cushion for big hits.
