Specialized's brand new Tarmac is back and it's better than ever before. No seriously, it really is better than it's ever been before! Desgined with a hunger for racing, the S-Works Tarmac SL7 comes in at an overall weight of just 6.8kg and a frame that weighs just 800 grams meaning you'll be flying up the most gruelling of climbs as well as descending at an equally atonishing pace thanks to Specialized's new aero features. Specialized are well known for their emphasis on aerodynamics, working hard to find the most daring of tube shapes that can scrape within the UCI rulebook. For the latest Tarmac, they decided to take notes from their very own Venge and bring these key elements forward into developing their newest FreeFoil Shape that features on the SL7, making this Tarmac now a whole 45 seconds faster over 40kms than the previous Tarmac SL6. While aerodynamics are a big part of what Specialized preach, for the S-Works Tarmac they ensured these aero results did not come at the cost of overall weight, keeping the SL7 super light as well as providing a stiff base for pushing some serious power as effectively and efficiently as possible. The Tarmac SL7 also features Specialized's Rider-First Engineered™ technology to ensure you have top quality handling, designed from a wealthy library of knowledge when it comes to rider geometry and set up. Specialized also decided to make sure the Tarmac was easy to travel with and service, desining a more simple integration system at the cockpit, similar to that of their Venge. Finally, to keep everything up to scratch with nothing but the best, the S-Works SL7 comes with a SRAM RED eTap AXS 12-speed groupset and power meter as well as hydraulic disc brakes for swift and crisp shifitng plus superior stopping power that is reliable in all weather conditions. Roval's new CLX Rapide wheels nicely finish off this born racing machine.
TECHNOLOGIES
Faster & More Aerodynamic
"Aero is everything”- Specailized has been preaching it for years and it’s still the driving force for the new Tarmac. In their quest for tube shapes that deliver the fastest frame that the UCI rules allow, Specialized took a page out of the Venge development book and utilized their FreeFoil Shape Library. Armed with a library of optimized shapes, they turned to the Win Tunnel to plug these shapes into a modular test bike, for more testing and validation. The result? A new Tarmac that’s the fastest Specilized has tested—45 seconds faster over 40km than the Tarmac SL6. No compromises, just pure speed.
Super Light In Weight
While aerodynamics were paramount to the Tarmac’s development, and to the development of all of Specialized's race bikes, weight was the co-pilot on this optimal race bike journey. Previously “aero bikes” always compromised in the weight department—the more drag you reduced, the more weight you gained. With the new Tarmac, Specialized's design philosophy was to keep it at, or below, the UCI weight limit out of the box, with no sacrifices to aerodynamics. And with the help of the FreeFoil Shape Library, tools like isotopic FEA analysis, and some engineering wizardry by the best engineers in the industry, Specialized delivered a frame that weighs a mere 800 grams, without giving up a gram of aero, stiffness or ride quality.
The Best Of The Best
To complement the world's fastest frame, only the best components will do—which is why you'll find the likes of SRAM's RED eTap AXS 12-speed group with power meter, and Roval's new CLX Rapide wheels, with their exceptional stability and aerodynamic prowess. The S-Works Tarmac is a top-level, 6.8kg race machine, right out of the box. Continuing their quest to develop the perfect race bike, Specialized used our Rider-First Engineered™ philosophy to ensure that the new Tarmac is the most balanced, best handling Tarmac yet—no matter the size. With an army of the world’s best test riders from their three World Tour Teams — Boels-Dolmans, Deceuninck-Quick-Step, and Bora-hansgrohe — Specialized made changes to the Tarmac based on their thousands of kilometers on the road. Specialized's balanced the ride quality between the front and rear end, so even the longest days in the saddle continue to be comfortable—all without giving up anything to the Tarmac’s legendary handling and race-winning snappiness.
